URBAN FOOD & DESIGN 2018

VIENNA DESIGN WEEK/Kollektiv Fischka/Philipp Podesser

A groundbreaking theme with a variety of facets which the Vienna Business Agency has been a pioneer in examing and has made accessible to the festival audience in talks, presentations, and guided tours. In the next thirty years, nearly ten billion people around the world, two-thirds of them in cities, will need food. Maintaining the quality of life in urban spaces requires long-term alternatives to conventional food production and distribution methods.  Along the keywords urban production, urban nutrition, and future hospitality, creatives have visualized at the festival headquarters in the former Sophienspital how such alternative food sources, their production at currently atypical locations, innovative gastronomical concepts, and new forms of table culture could contribute to making cities fit for the future.
