Pecha Kucha Night Vienna
Franz Sumnitsch and Maximilian Kamenar have been organising the Pecha Kucha Night in Vienna since 2007. The concept comes from Japan and is as simple as it is brilliant: In one evening, lecturers from a variety of creative areas present their work and projects to an audience in brief lectures of 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds, which gives each participant 400 seconds, or 6:40 minutes, in which to talk. The rules are the same for everyone, and PowerPoint lectures are raised to another level. Instead of sleep-inducing and incalculably long monologues, they become staged self-portrayals that can be exciting, amusing and interesting, or protracted and inscrutable - after all, 6:40 minutes are ultimately relative.
