Österreichische Werkstätten

The Österreichische Werkstätten were founded in 1948 by the architect Josef Hoffmann as an offshoot of the Werkbund and the Wiener Werkstätte. In addition to the founder, artists such as Gustav Klimt, Carl Auböck, and Koloman Moser, as well as the companies J. & L. Lobmeyr and Backhausen were involved. The Österreichische Werkstätten were extensively renovated in 2018, and the main office at Kärntnerstraße 6 received the German Design Award in 2019. Visitors interested in art can find design and crafts inspired by Viennese Modernism here. “Visiting the Österreichische Werkstätten is a must if you want to know Vienna.”
