Design Investigations, a course led by Anab Jain at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, sees its roots in industrial and product design. But the world’s changing and so is the role of the designer. More than ever it seems difficult to keep up with rapid change: from artificial intelligence and robotics to automation and digitization, climate change and political unrest. Designers need to face these changes head-on. In Design Investigations, students design speculative elements, products, experiences, and stories that directly engage with and respond to the complexities and uncertainties we face. They become designers for the 21st century, ready to create a more hopeful and humane future.
