Design in Gesellschaft

Design in Gesellschaft (DING for short) is a studio community in Vienna’s 20th district. Firmly convinced that the days of auteur design are numbered and that much can be achieved better and with more courage and pleasure in the collective – or “in Gesellschaft” – the members of the association sometimes work alongside each other, and sometimes with each other in constantly changing combinations, depending upon expertise and availability. They operate from a number of workshops that are gathered around a cozy courtyard and regularly occupy the large hall with exhibitions that show that design doesn’t only have to be about creating beautiful surfaces, but can also be about imagining new perspectives for the future and questioning old habits. How should our city work? What must new furniture production look like? Should we produce at all anymore? Design in Gesellschaft cooperates with museums, industry, and researchers.
