Design Campus

The Design Campus is the thinktank and research and design platform of the Kunstgewerbemuseum, which forms part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden in Germany. Based on four pillars – the museum, the school, the lab, and the network –, the Design Campus is a space where creative practitioners can recalibrate their own positions and become empowered to visualize and implement the many changes, challenges, and uncertainties of the 21st century.

The Design Campus summer program is a “School of Utopias”. A visionary design school, its role is to explore complex problems, dream up bold ideas, and collaboratively find new ways of moving forward. The inaugural Summer School 2021 was curated by Amelie Klein and Vera Sacchetti, and investigated the many connections between design and democracy. In 2022, The School of the Untold was curated by Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin (Formafantasma), followed by The School of Phyto-centred Design, based on a manifesto by Laura Drouet and Olivier Lacrouts (d-o-t-s) in 2023.
