DER SCHEINWERFER

DER SCHEINWERFER [literally ‘spotlight’] is a joint project between the Institute of Architecture and Design 1 of the Vienna University of Technology (Christine Hohenbüchler and Barbara Holub) with the Vienna SEG, a company for urban renewal and freehold flats.

In the subject area ‘artistic projects’, the students develop temporary and permanent light installations for various situations and locations connected with the SEG’s flat construction projects in Vienna. Every year one or two projects are realised, with the main emphasis placed on the significance of light as an artistic medium in the public space in an interplay with the architecture. The students are provided the opportunity to gain experience independently, from the conception of the project to its realisation, and thus meet the complex challenges of the public space in actual practice.
