The Festival City by Rosa Rogina – VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2020 Research Residency
To explore ways in which design festivals can act as agents for positive change in an ever-changing world, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, in collaboration with the British Council, called U.K.-based practitioners to submit proposals for curatorial research focussing on VIENNA DESIGN WEEK in its international context.
Having reviewed many submissions, an expert jury selected Rosa Rogina, Programme Director of the London Festival of Architecture, to be the first ever VIENNA DESIGN WEEK curator in residence. Congratulations again!
Due to Covid-19 restrictions Rosa was not able to travel to Vienna. Nonetheless she engaged in an intense VIENNA DESIGN WEEK research process, alongside her general research into the curatorial potential of design festivals, by also investigating ways of making them more democratic and accessible. The team virtually walked her around the exhibition space and some of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK spaces too.
“The Festival City”, a mini-video-series, is part of her research residency and will finally be presented during December 2020.
