ENDED: Urban Food & Design Practice 2024: City as a resource
As part of the Urban Food & Design format, the Vienna Business Agency and the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK are jointly organising an Urban Food & Design Practice. The call for entries is aimed at designers, architects and creative professionals from all disciplines – in particular teams with expertise in the fields of the circular economy, material innovation and social design.
We are looking for design solutions - concepts for objects for daily use - for the lounge and hospitality area of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK festival headquarters, which are to be implemented using sustainable materials from Biofabrique.

THE BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA
Biofabrique Vienna is a pilot project of the Vienna Business Agency and Atelier LUMA, a programme of LUMA Arles, in partnership with the Vienna University of Technology (Institute of Architecture and Design) as part of the Vienna Climate Biennale. In Biofabrique Vienna, local and international players are working together to reuse underutilised or unused urban resources. Possible new materials for architecture and design are being researched. A hall on the festival site of the Vienna Climate Biennale will thus become a place for prototyping, testing and discussion. Biofabrique Vienna is also a source of inspiration and a working environment for the Urban Food & Design Practice team. The aim is to exhibit the results of research and production of this first Biofabrique Vienna as an example in a collaboratively designed hospitality area at Vienna Design Week 2024.
OBJECTIVES OF THE URBAN FOOD & DESIGN PRACTICE
The design team selected by a jury will have the opportunity to collaborate with Biofabrique Vienna (4 April - 14 July 2024) both in terms of infrastructure and concept. The aim of the tender is to combine the processes and materials developed by Biofabrique Vienna in such a way that they can be used in a spatially effective and functional way during the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK.
In consultation with the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and the Vienna Business Agency, the selected design team will conceptualise the hospitality area of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. The results are to respond to the spatial conditions of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK (tba) festival centre and the way the festival functions.
As part of the Biofabrique Vienna network, there will be an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with an international network of experts and key figures from the fields of material innovation, design and the circular economy.
