VIENNESE CLIMATE COURTYARDS - "How do we use the city?"

Future Problems Architecture Studio

21.9.2024, 3pm–6pm

The project VIENNESE CLIMATE COURTYARDS demonstrates the microclimatic potential of the city’s existing courtyards. To mark the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Future Problems Architecture Studio is inviting visitors to explore the courtyards between Geblergasse, Hernalser Hauptstraße, Weißgasse, and Ortliebgasse in the form of guided walks, expert discussions, and workshops with local people. The issues under discussion range from urban density via the removal of hard surfaces and the planting of greenery to functional diversity in shared spaces. All the events are taking place around Elterleinplatz in Hernals. Colorful Viennese climate flags mark the interventions of this contribution to Stadtarbeit, which is focusing on our awareness and future use of the existing microclimate. From 23. to 27.9., the Future Problems Architecture Studio can be found in its pop-up office at Hernalser Hauptstraße 111, where it is inviting people to discuss their experiences of the last hot summer on its Klimaplauderbankerl.

The project is part of the Stadtarbeit format, which is realised with the support of Vermehrt Schönes! - the sponsoring programme of Erste Bank, and was awarded the tenth Erste Bank Social Design Prize. The award ceremony will take place on 26.September at 5pm at the festival headquarters.
