The Designers:

Andreas Fredriksson has been a designer at IKEA since 2011. With a background in furniture design from Europe and Vietnam and design degrees from Denmark’s Design School and Carl Malmsten School in Stockholm, Andreas has 30 years of experience in furniture and product design. His focus is on creating innovative, affordable products that fit well into people's homes. His curiosity drives him to explore new materials and techniques, which has led to popular designs like the HAVSTEN sofa, SYMFONISK bookshelf speaker, and various natural fiber products. In his spare time, Andreas enjoys working on projects in his workshop and spending time in nature with family and friends.

Johanna Jelinek joined IKEA’s design team in 2002 and holds degrees in Furniture and Interior Design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. She has over 20 years of experience and has exhibited her work at design fairs across Europe. Johanna is passionate about designing smart, attractive, and sustainable products for small spaces, aiming to improve life at home for people. Notable products include the BORGEBY sofa table, PERJOHAN stool, and JANSJÖ, IKEA’s first high-emission LED spotlight. She focuses on designing products that are affordable, environmentally conscious, and meet real needs. Johanna enjoys spending time with her kids and dog and has recently developed a passion for improvisation theater.

The Exhibition

IKEA is part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK for the third time. This year, everything revolves around a topic that affects us all – the importance of sleep. In addition to findings from the Austrian sleep study, there are six basics for good sleep to discover. The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and IKEA have jointly organised the DARE TO DREAM open call. From almost eighty submissions, an expert jury selected three projects that use IKEA products to develop new approaches, surprising installations and statements.

On show are the installation BEEEEEEEEEETT by German artist Oliver-Selim Boualam, a kinetic breathing wall by Slovenian designer Žan Girandon and the walk-in textile landscape CLIMB YOUR DREAMS by Austrian artist duo Lilian Marie Furrer and Agnes Valerie Schlager.

Jury members: Mia Kim and Nikolas Heep (KIM+HEEP), Gabriel Roland and Laura Winkler (VIENNA DESIGN WEEK), and Astrid Grasser and Susanne Istel (IKEA)
