ELEMENTS – ADAM ŠTĚCH’S PERSPECTIVE ON ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS
MAK – Museum für angewandte Kunst
20.–29.9.2024
The MAK has taken over a specially adapted version of the exhibition “Elements: Unique Details of the 20th Century Architecture and Interior” that Adam Štěch conceived for Dropcity in Milan as part of the Salone del Mobile in April 2024. The exhibition presents almost 3,000 architectural details that have been recorded by Adam Štěch and largely published on his Instagram account. For the show, the Prague-based architectural historian and researcher compiled an atlas of architectural details that is organized according to criteria such as lighting, seating, doors, fittings, windows, floors, walls, or other decorative or functional interior elements. And he teamed up with Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss to develop a mobile display system that enables the selection to be presented flexibly.
In parallel with ELEMENTS – ADAM ŠTĚCH’S PERSPECTIVE ON ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS, the exhibition AUT NOW – 100 × AUSTRIAN DESIGN FOR THE 21ST CENTURY can also be seen at the MAK. On 20.9., the results of the furniture making workshop with Yves Ebnöther will be presented as part of MAK-IT! EXTENDED. On 24.9., the MAK Design Nite can be visited free of charge.
Architecture talk: Sat 21.9., 2pm
The architecture talk with Adam Štěch, which is moderated by Rainald Franz (MAK curator of the exhibition ELEMENTS – ADAM ŠTĚCH’S PERSPECTIVE ON ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS) questions the significance of design details in modern architecture in the light of Mies van der Rohe’s famous dictum: “God is in the detail.”
The exhibition runs until 2.3.2025
