The Festival Headquarters in the Prater are very close to the Giant Ferris Wheel and the rollercoaster. Here: amusement and excess. There: spacious parkland. Design also feels this same dichotomy – torn between consumption, sustainability, minimalism, and abundance. How can we achieve sustainable design for everyone? How can products be manufactured in series and still remain individual? And where is the border between craft and commerce? These and other questions will be explored on the tour through the Festival Headquarters. Participants discover how local communities get involved in the shaping of their living environment and investigate how cities can be made fit for the future. And the projects in the format Urban Food & Design invite participants to consider food production and the design of the public realm from another angle and to think about production at a range of scales.
