Students of the studio for transmedia arts at the University of Applied Arts developed works addressing the subject of materiality and synesthesia under the guidance of Jakob Lena Knebl and in cooperation with Kohlmaier, the traditional Viennese manufacturer of upholstered furniture. During the course of the project, such issues as the relationship between body and surface, the articulation of language, communication through spatial intervention, places of retreat, and the representation of infinity were explored, questioned, and placed in a contemporary design context. The results can now be admired in Kohlmaier’s fascinating workshop and, round-the-clock, in its shop window.
