Filters and the like enable us to escape to a world that we like better: smooth, shiny, satisfying – and, above all … unrealistic. Because the real world has its rough edges. Here, not everything works perfectly – or like clockwork – all the time. No one dances to our tune. Here, in off-line reality, there are tiny things that massively get on our nerves. In the decidedly uncomfortable installations and photographic series in the exhibition THE ART OF UNEASE, Heimat Wien brings visitors back down to the ground of this harsh reality and painfully gets to the heart of the conflict between the satisfaction of which we dream and the imperfection with which we have to live.
