A tribute to a silent servant at the Salone del Mobile: For decades, the Milan design fair has been a central hub for the furniture industry. The first time he exhibited at the fair, the artist and designer Jakob Glasner noticed two things in particular: a unique object and endless amounts of packaging and building materials for the single-use stands. He was also puzzled by the fact that, amidst all the well-designed pieces on the fancy stands, most visitors preferred to take a rest on the unadorned metal beams that line the halls at ground level. After the event, Glasner collected the leftover material, created a copy of this beam in the form of a bench ... and still wonders to this day: “What is furniture anyway?”
