OK SOLAR – RETHINKING THE ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE

Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien

16.–25.9.2022

As a contribution of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, a temporary installation made of 36 discarded solar modules will be set up in the Festival Headquarters on the GSTÄTTN. The project shows how solar panels, as typical elements of contemporary architecture, can be integrated into the cityscape in an alternative way. OK SOLAR was developed by Stefan Diez, head of the department of Industrial Design 1, and his students for this year’s Angewandte Festival and has been developed further for the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. At peak times, the installation generates ten kilowatts of electrical energy. Together with his team and students, Diez searches for innovative solutions, which, among other things, make the case for a new approach to solar energy: rethinking the elements of architecture.
