THE WORLD FROM A SINGLE THREAD: NUMBERS, FORMS, BODIES

PECI.wien

The Viennese computer scientist and designer Eva Maria Schenzel transforms satisfying series of numbers into artistic crochetware with the help of her mathematical imagination and craft skills. But even if the technique of crocheting makes it possible to create complex forms using the simplest of means – a needle and a thread –, there is one thing that it certainly isn’t: automatable. At VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, the design and production processes of the bags and hats of the label PECI.wien are explained, while experimental works – such as a giant bikini with the fictive size 400E or textile incarnated Bitcoins – are presented. In the pop-up shop, visitors can try out and purchase selected items. In addition to this, the products can be seen round the clock in a display
