With its understanding of architecture as built landscape, the transdisciplinary office Snøhetta defines spaces that also make socio-political statements and open up new opportunities for users. A commitment to social and ecological sustainability and an intensive investigation of context, which also includes the impact of an intervention upon society and the environment, form the basis of their transdisciplinary approach. The aim of this talk is to explore the contribution that well-thought-out design can make to a sustainable future – with particular reference to the ethos of its users, the climate, and the context.
