MOTHERHOOD [UN]SEEN

mama.matters

29.9.–2.10.2021

When a baby is born, so is a mother. The transition into motherhood, a process that is also known as matrescence, is an identity change. It has been labeled by the WHO as the most critical yet overlooked period in the lives of women and their babies. During matrescence, society expects mothers to be happy while they’re losing control over the way they look and feel. Visitors are invited to join the mama.matters Lab+Shop for a unique exhibition, in which women artists, who also happen to be mothers, explore matrescence through art. From ceramics to photography, the unique handmade objects bring the unseen aspects of motherhood into the spotlight.

A second project by mama.matters, THE BREASTFEEDING BENCH, can be seen in the Festival Headquarters
