“Is handicraft magical?” asks designer Miki Martinek and, without further ado, puts it to the test at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK: Together with the wood turner Hermann Viehauser, she is developing handmade products and offering collaborative workshops. And, with a limited edition of its much-loved twelve-page magazine design.letters, design.mikimartinek initiates an exchange about design and craft. Out of love for the trees, turned collector’s items such as the “TREE-light” lamp, the “TREE-plates” coasters or the “TREE-cups” mug tower have been created. Festival visitors are invited to be moved by the former handicraft of kings and queens, to touch the products in the atelier of the designer, and to explore the captivatingly fascinating high-precision work of Hermann Viehauser during a talk and workshops. For Viehauser, who was represented in the Passionswege format of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK in 2019, this is also a return visit to the festival – a return visit to which we are very much looking forward!
