BRIGITTENAU BIRTHDAY BASH

AW Architekten

24.9.2021, 2pm

A twenty-year-old and a fifteen-year-old are meeting up for a chat: To mark the anniversary of its founding, the Brigittenau architecture company AW Architekten is making a guest appearance at this year’s Festival Headquarters of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, which first took place in 2007, and is offering festival visitors an insight into its work for private and public clients – from detached houses to apartment, office, and commercial buildings of a wide range of scales and sizes. In order to meet today’s challenges, AW Architekten is increasingly focusing on the use of alternative energy concepts and the careful preservation of existing structures: While a housing complex in Lower Austria makes use of building component activation and wind energy, a historically important Jugendstil villa in the 17th district (Manner) will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment. Further core activities of the office include the design and realization of shopping centers and buildings with gastronomic functions for international clients such as the company Schärf. The health sector expertise acquired by AW Architekten in its refurbishment of old people’s homes is currently being employed in the design of the MED 23 Center in Liesing – a large-scale project that will accompany the Brigittenau architects for many years in much the same way as their regular urban planning commissions. The talk will be given by the two masterminds Christoph Huber and Ralf Steiner.
