THE DESIGN FIRE EXTINGUISHER

FARA

25.9.–3.10.2020

FARA is a young Viennese company that produces stylish and individually designed fire extinguishers. It marked VIENNA DESIGN WEEK by presenting an impressive, up-to-date selection of these one-off objects in the premises of the jewelry manufacturers Atelier im Ersten. And the shop window was graced by the model that was specially designed for the jewelers in line with the motto “Personal design is the silent ambassador of our brand!” Despite the wet weather, the mood was excellent at the opening cocktail party, where the colorful raincoats competed with the vibrant paintwork of the designer fire extinguishers.

Apropos paintwork. The surface of the one-off FARA objects is designed in line with the customer’s wishes and painted by hand by the traditional Vienna company Melmuka in the 10th District. Karl Melmuka, one of the country’s last master painter and decorators, personally guided a group of interested festival visitors through the premises and demonstrated (together with his son and junior boss) the art of applying paint. For the process, from the design decision to the mixing and the spraying of the paint, requires many steps that demand precision and experience. And, in addition to the FARA extinguishers, the company paints many other well-known objects – such as the lottery balls (!)
