“Big hugs” – was one of many answers to the simple yet central question of what actually makes us happy. Many other individual answers, which had been gathered around the world, could be read in the exhibition DON’T HURRY, BE HAPPY! in Vienna’s Walking Chair Design Studio. The show is the result of the artistic research of Allan Dransfield, the official Happiness Maker of the Swiss bag label FREITAG. Allan marked the 25th anniversary of Freitag travelling the world and interviewing people about their notion of happiness. This can be something very simple that we don’t even notice or easily forget in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. During VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Allan displayed the results of his social experiments in the form of postcards – as quotes, combined with portraits of their authors. Visitors to the exhibition, which was staged below a golden canopy, moved from card to card, noting that happiness is a universally comprehensible language.
