When approaching the Schwendermarkt it can hardly be missed. A bench, in the yellow of Doka construction forms, extends along the street and since 2009 has served as much more than just a place to sit. This bench, in front of the showroom for designer chairs, is also a platform for social interaction and turns seating surfaces in the public space into places where encounters are possible. In other words, this is a dynamic location, an interface of public and private, where the owner, artist Sabine Heine, developed a series of one-of-a-kind objects with matching connections that turn two used chairs or stools into a bench – accompanied with some slapstick provided by Czech performer Jan Jakubal.
