NATHALIE DU PASQUIER: BIG OBJECTS NOT ALWAYS SILENT

Kunsthalle Wien

30.9.–9.10.2016

The Kunsthalle Wien extended an invitation to stroll through the aesthetically wide-ranging oeuvre of the design luminary Nathalie Du Pasquier. It was the first solo exhibition of this kind in an international institution – a show displaying
product design and the fine art of painting, and differentiating between works from two creative periods. Du Pasquier, founding member of the influential design and architecture collective Memphis surrounding Ettore Sottsass,
presented graphic surface structures and designs influenced by African textile
patterns, the Wiener Werkstätte, and the British Arts and Crafts Movement. The relation between forms, objects, and spaces was reflected in the geometric paintings as well as the pastel collages and isometries. Nathalie Du Pasquier also gave a talk about personal influences, predilections, and interests in art and design.
