Finding answers for the great issues of our politically restless times was on the
agenda of the one-day symposium. In a transatlantic dialogue – with a top line-up from academe, art, and architecture – the Department of Social Design – Arts as Urban Innovation pushed the door wide open to new idea and dialogue spaces. They were issues on the so-called social middle, which were  approached her from different perspectives. Because those who suspect invaders in their country, who differentiate meticulously between inside and outside, and who interpret belonging as national, exploit fears, draw from uncertaintly, and twist traditions. The symposium took a stand and showed us that today – in the art and design context – it can only be a question of enlightenment when we campaign for our freedom.
