Ever since 2009, the Vienna Business Agency with its creative center departure has been coordinating and financing the gallery festival curated by_vienna. The impulse for this year’s edition was supplied by the eponymous essay by author and cultural critic
Diedrich Diederichsen. On the basis of his theories, for a whole month Viennese
galleries for contemporary art showed exhibitions by international curators: In contrast to the times of the avant-gardes, artistic claims of innovation today are premised less on the cutting-off of lines of tradition but rather on the rediscovery
and reinvention of precursors.
