How social design can create alternatives in livening up social spaces with the help of specifically deployed impulses, was demonstrated in the Stadtarbeit project WELCOME TO THE LIVING ROOM!. As a place for telling stories and sharing stories, the temporary living room in the Brotfabrik Wien – a place absolutely free of consumerist compulsions – aimed to change awareness and to reinforce social solidarity. People were listened to, worked together, experimented, exchanged ideas, or simply lingered here. With the enthusiastic inclusion of the public and residents of the 10th district, the Living Room created a new (think-tank) room for issues concerning migration.
