Laureline Galliot (FR) with Backhausen

Backhausen, Laureline Galliot

25.9.–2.10.2015

When an iPad drawing meets 165 years of experience in textile manufacture, the outcome can only be amazing. In Otto Wagner’s iconic cashiers’ hall, the French designer Laureline Galliot presented her richly colorful painted and three-dimensional works, the fruit of her engagement with the cultural heritage of the Austrian textile manufacturer Backhausen. Inspired by the patterns and colors of the Wiener Werkstätte and in interaction with Louise Kiesling and her team, materials emerged that engage with the original designs of Koloman Moser and reinterpret them in contemporary form. An iPad remake of Kolo Moser’s self-portrait and of the artist herself manifested the virtuosity in reinterpreting the graphic gesture even in woven form.
