With colorful patchworks made of photos of the district the FOTOLABOR KRETA placed a conspicuous spotlight on the district of Favoriten in its window display. Starting out from its location on Reumannplatz, the experimental photographic laboratory invited visitors to a visual exploration of the district in general and the neighborhood of Kreta in particular. For a long time the district surrounding the Festival Headquarters, once identified with the “Gründer- zeit” of nineteenth-century industrial expansion, was regarded as a traditional immigrant quarter. Using multilingual instructions, the Stadtarbeit project invited people to step inside, take photos, bring some photos with them, and exhibit them on site as pictures reproduced from private archives – making an archive that now continues to tell the history of the district. Three guided theme tours invited the people furthermore to explore Favoriten – from pre-lunch drinks in the local inn to the evening tour – or pub crawl – through the Favoriten “Beisl” landscape, not forgetting the Anadolu Camii mosque.
