Wiener Silber Manufactur, Alexandre Echasseriau (FR)

With its more or less two hundred years of history, the Wiener Silber Manufactur is a prime example of the unique craftsmanship of a company with a rich, longstanding tradition. Alexandre Echasseriau, who studied at the famous École Boulle and at the ENSCI – Les Ateliers in Paris, was particularly impressed by the art of the silversmith and invested this interest in a collaboration within the Passionswege program. Inspired by the craggy and sublime forms of glaciers and mountains, he designed a champagne bucket with a shine ennobled by its high fine silver content, and which challenged mister Umani, Master Silversmith of the Silber Manufactur, in every way. Before use, the entire cooler was deep-frozen, then, as the scintillating evening wore on, the glacier slowly melted, and gradually the thin, frozen layer of ice retreated to manifest the perfect polished silver surface. A thaw that revealed pure craftsmanship!
