Stadtarbeit 2012

The festival format City Work [Stadtarbeit] celebrates its premiere this year. It frees design from the designed artefact and addresses the creation of urban and social spaces in all their diversity and complexity. Five projects for the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK were selected in an open call and by a jury of experts; they tackle the issues of social, cultural and spatial structures in Vienna, also institutions and social conventions. City Work contributes not least to the further evolution of the concept of design as it resounds for instance in the term “social design” – the things being designed are not objects, products or architecture, but processes and living spaces, which all revolve around human beings as the criterion and as active participants.
