Exhibition 2011

The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK has invited two international exhibitions to Vienna this autumn, both under the aegis of this year’s guest country Poland. The peripatetic exhibition “Just a Thing” is curated by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, one of the leading design experts in Poland (Lodz International Design Festival). She gave ten designers the task of designing an object that would fit into a wooden box 75 cm long. Within the scope of this minimal condition, the chosen ten came up with a fascinating display of imagination, passion and sense of humour. As part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK the Polish designer and architect Oskar Zieta presents “Reflections” as his first solo exhibition in Vienna – although not his first appearance at the festival, for he took part in 2008. In this installation, presented in the premises of Sotheby's, he tries for the first time to make metal sheet appear transparent. Being just as beautiful as they are confusing, optical effects result from the melting together of pattern, surface and reflection. The exhibition „Just a Thing” is supported by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola and the Adam-Mickiewicz-Institute, the solo show „Reflections” is supported by the Polish Institute Vienna.
