1.–9.10.2010

Follow the design process live with the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK
Laboratory. In the ‘show laboratory’, creatives from product and
graphic design will work in a public atelier, the slogan this year is
“Papermania”. A laboratory talk takes place most days at 5.30 pm.
There’ll be a wind-up party on 9 October, the last evening of the
‘show laboratory’, starting at 22:00. Curators of the ‘show laboratory’
are communication designer Erwin K. Bauer (AT) and the Neigungsgruppe Design.

The designers:

Philippe Malouin (CAN/UK): 6–9 October
After completing his Industrial Design studies in Montreal, Paris and Eindhoven, Philippe Malouin freelanced for the English designer Tom Dixon and then set up his own studio in London, Philippe Malouin Design, where he has been able to use a more experimental approach in his work in parallel with projects he undertakes with industrial manufacturers. His creations attract not only the press’s attention, but also that of institutions and the international art market. They are on display at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery (Milan), the Fumi Gallery (London), Commissaires (Montreal) and NextLevel Galerie (Paris). He currently lives and works in London.

Kueng Caputo (CH): 1–6 October
The two Swiss designers Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo are both graduates of the Zurich Academy of Art and Design and since 2008 have been known as ‘Kueng Caputo’. ‘Intelligent’ and ‘humorous’ are apt adjectives for their working style with already existent objects or in reactions to the local context.

Kueng Caputo feat. The Confetti Museum
Since the beginning of 2010 Nini Spagl, under the name of “The Confetti Museum", collects and makes archives of confetti she receives as donations. The random product confetti is categorized by theme and displayed. Participate in the project by bringing your waste from punching and contribute to the collection!

Markus Wagner & Markus Wipplinger, Motion Designer (AT): 4. - 10. Oktober
Markus Wagner and Markus Wipplinger have on occasion been working together since years, be it during their studies in MultiMedia Art at Salzburg Polytechnic or in numerous collaborative projects. Their approach is playful although they work on the most advanced technical level, be it in 3D-animation, interface design or drawn visuals. Sometimes grotesque and often poetic is their work, e. g. when they create puppets for a stop motion movie made from newspaper and tape in order to visualize a poem by H.C. Artmann.

Merz & Hess (CH): 2–6 October
The collaboration between the Swiss designers Adrian Merz and Cornelia Hess is new and still relatively unknown is. Their critical approach to form and content materialises in a combination of illustration, typography, photography, and threedimensional design. Parallel worlds emerge out of paper, critical information graphics, and versatile displays.
