MINIMAL. Kunst und Möbel aus der Sammlung des MAK
Guided tour with Sebastian Hackenschmidt, MAK Curator Furniture and Woodworks
5.10.2010, 5pm–6pm
This exhibition finds its starting point in American Minimal Art, which was one of the most influential artistic movements of the 20th century’s second half, and goes on to deal with Minimal Art precursors and more recent further developments of minimalism in the field of furniture and “furniture-like” art. Many aspects of the minimalist aesthetic, characterized above all by a simple, clear and for the most part geometric formal language, are already evident in the furniture designed by architects during the early 20th century. Over the past few years, such furniture has been increasingly rediscovered by contemporary artists, some of whom refer explicitly to Minimal Art in their works.
Meeting point for all guided tours in the MAK Säulenhalle; no booking necessary.
