loosgelöst - An intervention by Robert Stadler

Wien Museum

7.10.2008, 6.30pm

The living room with fireplace from the flat of Adolf Loos is one of the highlights of the Wien Museum Karlsplatz permanent exhibition and at the same time a rare, authentically preserved example of Loosian interior design. In 1903 the architect here realised his artistic design and furnishing principles. On the occasion of VIENNADESIGN WEEK Wien Museum has invited the designer Robert Stadler for a design intervention in the "Loos room" – 100 years after the publication of Loos's famous essay "Ornament and Crime".

Robert Stadler, who lives in Paris and Rio de Janeiro, and whose work also includes art projects as well as industrial design, particularly reacts to the museological situation of the apartment and its souvenir character. He transforms the "Loos room" into an oversized souvenir object. As a memento visitors can take home a photo poster of the intervention. A playful answer to the question: how do you deal with icons?
